1 out of 5 stars Mac not-so-friendly   August 28, 2010

I ordered this mouse after seeing on the Razer website that it was mac friendly. Turns out that it does work with a Mac, but only the basic functions. The extra keys cannot be used and therefore are useless. If I'm going to pay that much money for a good mouse, I want it to function as described, not have minimal function that any 3 button mouse could handle.

3 out of 5 stars Don't lift this mouse   August 25, 2010
Neil A. Reigelsperger
Simple but big complaint about this product, every time I lift the mouse slightly off the pad, the cursor jumps down and to the right, even with the latest firmware and drivers installed.

I've only been using it for a few hours now, but I haven't really noticed the issue while actually playing games. I would say the issue becomes less and less relevant the higher your DPI is set because you are then less likely to need to pick up your mouse. As long as you never pick the mouse up off the pad, it works great.

For video of the problem, search youtube for imperator z-axis issue.

EDIT: Yesterday the mouse shut off mid-use while playing TF2. Had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work. This is with the latest firmware and driver updates. Windows 7 64

5 out of 5 stars Razer Mice Comparison   August 24, 2010

Previous Gaming Mice:
Razer Diamondback 3G
Razer Lachesis 3G

Mouse Mat:
Dell XPS Hard Mat (Previous)
Razer Vespula (Current)

Use:
General (Email, Web, etc.)
Work (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
Occasional Gaming

Comfort:
Diamondback 4/5
The Diamondback is one of the older ambidextrous models that Razer offers. The key attribute to it's comfort is it's smaller size. I am a claw grip user, so even for prolonged use it remained comfortable.

Lachesis 3/5
The Lachesis is one of Razer's current ambidextrous models that they still offer. It's larger than the Diamondback, but still not as large as the Boomslang. Comfort is definitely a relative experience for the user. I personally found the larger size comfortable for short periods of time, but for prolonged use it caused my hand to cramp. If you're trying to make use of the extra 2 side buttons, they're in an unnatural position and quite a strain to reach. They're essentially only there for left-handed users.

Imperator 5/5
This is the first ergonomic mouse I've owned. I've used various in the past including the MS IE3.0 and Logitech MX518. Even for a claw grip user, the ergonomics takes comfort to an entirely new level. I have yet to experience any discomfort whatsoever and I've owned the mouse for quite a while now. The adjustable side buttons make them very easy to dial in to the perfect position.

Performance:
Diamondback 3G 5/5
I have never had any issues with this mouse whatsoever. The only reason I upgraded to the Lachesis is because of a personal need to have the latest and greatest. It was an impulse buy and more of a want rather than a need. After a few months of technical issues with the Lachesis I ended up going back to the Diamondback until I purchased the Imperator.

Lachesis 3/5
While it worked it was great. This mouse was plagued with issues. The first major issue was the skipping from lift. Razer even stated that the laser was overly-sensitive and the fix was to remove the sticker surrounding the laser on the bottom of the mouse. Removing the sticker helped a lot but it did not rectify the skipping 100%. Due to the lack of "timely" support is why I completely abandoned the Lachesis. I have noticed that they finally do have a Windows 7 version of the drivers and new firmware updates. At the time the skipping made the mouse unusable for Photoshop/Illustrator and gaming alike. Lift is an issue that stems from two things, the hardware and the user. I tend to lift the mouse as I move it, but by only a small amount. Half of the problem was myself and how I use the mouse. I know others (including progamers) with the mouse that are happy with theirs. There are new updates available so I wouldn't discount this mouse entirely if it's something that will suit your needs.

Imperator 5/5
Personally, this mouse is flawless. There are several reviews online regarding cursor shake from rapid clicking. I've tested it, and they are correct. The cursor does shake from rapid clicking, but this was mainly a complaint from hardcore fps users who go through these motions frequently. My needs and uses of the mouse never warrant for clicking of that speed and force so it's never been an issue. Tracking is super precise especially when using Photoshop/Illustrator, even when moving/editting a pixel at a time. One of the most useful features of this mouse is the ability to dial in your profiles/sensitivity and change them on the fly. The software is very easy to use and is pretty straight forward. I use it quite often when switching from general windows use (3000 dpi) and the occasional Starcraft 2 game (5600 dpi). The high dpi is nice especially when using a high resolution. It allows me to access anything on my screen (1900x1200 24" LCD) with only one stroke of the mouse.

Conclusion:
The Imperator is the best Razer mouse that I've owned to date. Personally I like larger fixed side buttons and would've gone with the Deathadder if it wasn't for the low dpi. People have said the side buttons and the adjustment switch feel cheap. After many months of use, it's definitely held up just fine. Razer support in terms of software may seem to be a bit slow at times, but it's definitely nice that they offer spare teflon feet through their website. I've used the mouse since it's release and the feet are still in great condition, but it's nice to know they're available.

I bought this mouse in May, they had driver problems for windows 7 64bit back then and just finally got them straightened out. Now the main mouse button is flaking out on me. The mouse is comfortable and ergonomic when it works.

My best razer mouse yet, perfect for my grip (spider). I love the new design specially the wire it is sleeved.

Only down side is you can't control the scrolling speed but overall good.
